Summer Roses in Texas

Roses at Bastrop Lake by Joyce HicksLast Summer we traveled to Bastrop Lake in Texas for a family get together. While driving one of the old country roads around the lake I spotted this small rose bush glowing in the noon day sun. I am always attracted to roses of any kind or color so I thought this would be a good subject for me to paint. I knew the painting was to be about the roses and thought that the mail box might be a distraction for this focal point. I never attempt to render a scene exactly as it is because the camera does that very nicely, but it cannot capture the mood or feeling one has for a particular scene so that’s what I try to do. I hope you will enjoy my impression of Roses at Bastrop Lake.
